Desiring Someone Else's Testimony

Desiring Someone Else's Testimony

It has been on my heart to blog about “wanting someone else’s testimony”. As a child of God, you have a powerful story to tell. Sharing your authentic testimony can help others discover how they, too can know God personally. It is so important to live YOUR OWN TRUTH, by not comparing yourself or desiring someone else’s story, marriage, life etc. I recently struggled with this because for the past year and a half I have admired women who practiced abstinence before marriage, and set physical boundaries while dating. I felt discouraged when I would fail in this area or if my relationship wasn't an exact replica of theirs. I learned to trust God for help and received deliverance through him & not by analyzing someone else's journey. Instead of spinning my wheels and striving to be someone I’m not, I learned to enjoy the sweet fulfillment of being who I really am, flaws and all. We all have a unique testimony and are designed for a specific purpose. When you find yourself trying desperately to emulate someone else’s life rather than Jesus, you have a problem. So I ask you…Are you doing whatever you are doing to impress people? To appear better than someone else? If your purpose behind whatever you are doing doesn't direct you back to Jesus then your heart is in the wrong place.

It’s okay to be inspired by someone who is where you want to be in life, but it is important that you guard your heart and not obsess about how they got to where they are and focus on your own journey. It is especially important to guard your heart in the areas of social media & reality TV because the effect of these things can be toxic to your spirit. Sometimes you have cut off all the blogs, social media, YouTube and find what’s unique and beautiful about you. Stop comparing and live your own story, stop wanting someone else’s testimony and live your own. God is getting you ready for your dream, and part of that is loving your own lane. You have to accept that your life is not going to be exactly like whoever you are inspired by and trust Gods plan for your life. Make sure Jesus is your standard and you are doing all that you do for him and not for selfish reasons and encourage those who are where you desire to be. God has an awesome plan for your life, so don’t settle for merely doing what someone else has done. Your greatest value comes from being who you truly are. Let your beautiful, unique, authentic self truly come alive.

If you are struggling in this area ask God to help you and above all else, guard your heart. I can’t encourage you as much as the word of God can so I encourage you to meditate on these scriptures:

"Let everyone be sure to do his very best, for then he will have the personal satisfaction of work done well and won’t need to compare himself with someone else." (Galatians 6:4 LB)

“And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ’s] one body you were also called [to live]. And be thankful (appreciative), [giving praise to God always].” (Colossians 3:15 AMP)

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” (Proverbs 4:23 AMP)
