Feeding Your Faith
There is an old adage that states:
An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.
“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “
The one you feed.”
I wanted to share this proverb because there are so many people struggling with addiction, falling into the same negative cycle or constantly making bad choices, and it’s simply because they don’t know the power of “yes” or “no”. This proverb is similar to the word of God because God gives us a way out of temptation before we entertain it.
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV)
When we feed our faith, our fears, lust, anger, jealousy, guilt will starve to death. It’s so comforting to know God is directing and guiding us through every storm and sees them before we enter; making a peaceful way for us, if we would only accept it. He is so loving and patient with us, not forceful, allowing us to exercise free will. Pay attention to your “gut feelings”, “Inkling”, “intuition” or whatever you may call it. It’s powerful and can save you from a bunch of heartache, and re-dos.
So I ask you...Which wolf are you feeding? We always have a choice.
