Guys are Few at Pews!
Question: Do men hate going to church?
Easter is coming up and most churches are encouraging members to BRING A FRIEND, or someone who may not know Jesus. Can I please encourage you to…bring aMAN. Churches are jam packed with women and statistics show that the typical U.S. Congregation draws an adult crowd that’s 61% female, 39% male. This gender gap shows up in all age categories. This Sunday almost 25 percent of married, churchgoing women will worship without their husbands. God has called men to be the leaders, and if they aren't feeding themselves with the word how can they feed their family? Men are the head of the Christian household and the same way women need to be vulnerable, supported and loved, so do men. Church isn't a “women’s thing”—it’s an eternity thing, an accountability thing, a life changing thing.
Quick Story, Valentine’s Day 2011 a friend of mine invited me to an event hosted by the Singles Ministry at her church. It was supposed to be a mixer with food, dancing and mingling. At first I was skeptical because I thought it was going to be wack…let’s be real, I had never been to a “Church Valentines Event” and at that point in my life I was in the club every other weekend & I didn't think there would be any “eye candy” at this type of thing.
Well…I was right. Not only was there no “eye candy”, there were no men. It was unbelievable. I thought there is something seriously wrong with this picture and very discouraging for the young ladies who attended the event thinking they might really meet good Christian men. Nevertheless, let me make it clear you shouldn't be attending church or church events to “get chose” , this is simply an example of the lack of men participation when it comes to the church.
So with that being said, this Easter let’s step out of our comfort zone and invite a man to church. It can be your dad, uncle, brother, spouse, guy friend, whoever just make sure you invite one. Be persistent not pushy, offer to give them a ride if needed. But seriously ask them with a genuine heart. You never know what impact it will have them unless you simply ask..
Invite others to participate in this challenge! Let’s create a ripple! #EasterChallenge #ManUpChallenge
